Top 5 Cheap Eats in Walt Disney World

This month’s theme is “Snacks”. Who doesn’t love a Disney snack?

One thing you’ve probably already figured out by now is that we are all largely food motivated! We like our food, and anything in the Disney Parks add that special pixie dust magic that makes things taste THAT much better.

We have tried a lot of things, and there’s still a lot on our list! Here’s our top five and a few others we couldn’t resist throwing in! 

1. Churro Ice Cream Sandwich – $6.99

You can get this bad boy in the Magic Kingdom at Sleepy Hollow. Truth be told, my husband had it for dinner! He would do it again, too. What’s not to love about Vanilla Bean Ice Cream in a warm churro?

2. Buffalo Chicken Tater Tots – $9.99

I am definitely a savory over sweet person, every time. So when I saw this on the menu at The Friar’s Nook, I knew I HAD to try it. If you are into buffalo sauce, and trying new things, this is the snack for you. They perfectly balanced the funk of the blue cheese with the tang of the ranch and spiciness of the hot sauce. Technically these are a snack, but we would totally eat these as a meal! Now we aren’t sure how long this is going to be around for, because the last time we were at MK they had more Mac and Cheese options.

3. Dole Whip $4.99 – $5.99

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, cause it’s most peoples favourite; but it’s just THAT good. What’s not to like about pineapple soft serve? We can’t do a Disney trip without at LEAST one Dole Whip. We have even tried to replicate it at home but never to the same deliciousness that is the Dole Whip in the parks. How can something not Mickey shaped bring so much joy? I don’t even know… but it does! In WDW they even offer different flavours, but sadly I have not been able to partake in them. Guess we just need to go again 😉 . (Though truth be told, one of the coffee shops in my city offers the different flavours, so I may or may not be trying some this summer. Keep an eye on our Instagram for that).

Thankfully there are a lot of locations that serve Dole Whip! (Thank you WDW Prep School for the list)

• Tamu Tamu at Animal Kingdom
• Marketplace Snacks in Disney Springs
• Pineapple Lanai at Polynesian Resort
• The Drop Off Pool Bar at Art of Animation Resort
• Everything Pop Food Court at Pop Century
• Epcot Festival Kitchens (such as the Pineapple Promenade during Flower and Garden Festival)

This is the Dole Whip Float. It’s definitely different… and I love how pretty it is, but it’s a LOT of juice!

If you’re from the West Coast, you are also likely familiar with Tajin… a lime salt that you can put on sweet things. A lot of people enjoy it on their Dole Whip! Think of it as a “flavour enhancer”. In Disneyland, they have little packets of them… just ask for it at the counter. For WDW, you have to bring your own. I was thrilled to find this little guy at a Mexican Food store recently… it’s staying in my bag!

4. Caramel Apple – $6.49

If you have never tried a Caramel Apple in Disney, do yourself a favour and get one the next time you are there. Specifically we love them at the German Pavilion in Epcot. There is a Karamell-Kuche (in English, caramel kitchen) presented by Werther’s Original. I like the classic caramel with peanuts. There is something so delicious about a tart apple wrapped in soft caramel and crunchy peanuts. It’s the perfect combination to me. We get them to cut it for us so we can share it with the family. Plus, it’s easier to eat that way. If you like caramel, they also have a yummy assortment of caramels and caramel popcorn. 

 

5. Skolebrød (aka “School bread”) – $3.99

When we walked into Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in the Norway Pavilion there were so many delicious looking pastries and cupcakes it was so hard to choose! Everyone always heads straight to the France Pavilion for pastries, but this bakery is worth saving room for! We have tried several things from here including the Troll Horn, the Sweet Pretzel with Chocolate, and a most delicious cream puff. 

 

School Bread is a sweet roll dipped in coconut with a sweet custard in the middle. I think my love of bread comes from our Mennonite roots. There’s nothing more satisfying to me than biting into dough. It makes a great mid-morning snack because it’s basically a bun. Give me all those carbs baby. And the best part is you can pick one of these up for only $3.99! I couldn’t find my picture of the actual School Bread itself. You will just have to take my word for it and head there to check it out yourself.

Honourable Mentions

If you’ve never had Poutine, stop on by the Canada Pavilion in Epcot at the Refreshment Port and give it a go. It’s delicious! We may be partial to Poutine since it’s one of the foods that is quintessentially Canadian. Fries plus cheese curds (basically little nuggets of cheese) smothered in warm gravy. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! Traditional Poutine is only $6.99!

Cronuts are also an honorable mention, especially Al la Mode. Oh. My. Yum. If you have never had the pleasure of tasting a Cronut allow me to elaborate. It’s what you would get if a donut and a croissant had a baby. It’s soft and fluffy like a donut, with layers of pastry goodness like a croissant. As if that wasn’t good enough it’s rolled in cinnamon sugar straight out of the fryer. 

The Macarons in the French Pavilion in Epcot are AMAZING. My daughter tried one with ice cream in the middle. C’est Bon!

 

Also, Cannoli’s from the Italy Pavilion. Simple, delicious.

Snack Wish List

We were just in WDW in February and we REALLY wanted to try Lefou’s Brew, but it was just too cold! That’s definitely on our list for next Spring!
