Supporting Disney Small Shops

Do you support small shops?

When we set out to start our blog, I remember people asking me why. Why spend the time writing and researching? As we developed the site and the material, we had to really look at who we wanted to be as “Stress Free Mickey”. Our goal is to help people get acquainted with all things Disney, with as little stress as possible. Being able to order special one-of-a-kind items to bring with you ahead of time is a great place to start. Or if you just need a little Disney love in your life and don’t have a trip planned.

It quickly became clear that we are passionate about supporting local talent. One of the things we found when we joined this amazing Disney community is how many gifted artists there are out there. Though coming to that realization was fairly simple, merging four very different opinions proved to be a challenge. What one loved, the others weren’t so crazy about. What transpired from that conversation is that one of our greatest strengths is our four individual tastes.

We currently have the pleasure of representing three small shops. Supporting and representing small shops is important to us for a number of reasons. Buying from small shops allows for customization, and allows you (the shopper) to be in dialogue with the artists themselves. You are supporting someone’s passions, which is so awesome to be able to do! As an owner of a small shop myself, it brings me so much joy to be able to represent such awesome talent as these!

Mainstreet Mementos

This small shop is run by the fabulous Keiana. She lives in Denver. She started the shop because she was taking time off from school and needed a hobby. She’s always loved Disney so she tried her hand at key chains and has expanded to phone cases, stickers and even t-shirts! She has loved the blessing it has been to connect with other Disney fans and find her true passion. Her favourite Disney characters are Buzz and Woody.

We have been so impressed with the quality and care she puts into each one of her products. We each have our own key chain, and Heidi and I have a really wonderful Christmas case for our phone! The key chain fits really nicely in the palm of my hand. It’s not too heavy or bulky, which I really enjoy. It’s also a small piece of Disney history, as the images come from old books. Find her on instagram @mainstreetmementos. Use our code: SFMICKEY 20 for 20% off your order.

Happily Ever Cozies

Happily Ever Cozies is an Etsy shop started just last year! It is run and owned by Elizabeth from Glendale, Arizona. Elizabeth is a coffee lover and she loves to crochet and craft so she combined all of these things to create her lovely shop. She started off with just making one for herself and got so many compliments she decided to open a shop. Most of the cozies are Disney because she’s a Disney fan. She loves seeing her creations on other peoples cups.

small shop cozyThere are so many reasons why I love her cozies… the first being that it’s environmentally responsible to bring your own sleeve for your coffee or tea. (I keep mine in a baggie in my purse at all times!) Secondly, I drink my coffee at 180 degrees and it gets really hot! So this helps.

Lastly, I really love that it adds a little Disney to my day! Her designs are so cute, AND you can custom any design on the website that you see with no added charge. Find her on Instagram @happilyevercozies. Use our code: MICKEY15 for 15% off.

Earristible Disney

Earristible Disney is also an Etsy shop, and is run by Ariel. She is based out of Texas, and loves to make unique ears that you can’t find anywhere else. Ariel started her small business when she was trying to figure out what to do with her life, career-wise. She started creating ears as a hobby because she couldn’t find what she wanted in the parks. When she got so many compliments (and a nudge from her supportive partner) that she decided to open up shop in 2018. She’s recently added key chains as a way to spread a little extra Disney magic (because you can’t wear Mickey ears every day *sigh*). Her fave Disney character is Mickey!

The details on the ears are quite beautiful. If you know me at all, you know that I adore Peter Pan. The Peter Pan ears that I got from her are unlike anything that I have ever seen in the park from the silhouette of Peter to the perfectly placed feather.

The key chains are a fun, colourful addition to any key chain. The resin is sturdy, which works out fabulously when you’re constantly reaching for your keys. I particularly like how sparkly and bright they are. I like to keep mine on my photocopy card at work. It adds a little more bulk to my card so that I can find it easily. But also, I just like seeing that pretty Minnie Mouse bow in my cubby in the photocopy room. Find her on Instagram @earristibledisney. Use our code: STRESSFREEMICKEY15

More Favourites

There are so many amazing small shops on Etsy. Here are a couple of extras that we have had good experiences with.

Craft Design by J9 (@craftdesignbyj9)

Jan is another lovely friend we have met through the Disney community. I recently ordered a shirt from her and she was awesome to work with. I kind of had an idea in my head about what I wanted. She worked with me to create a custom t-shirt and it turned out even better than I could have imagined. She completed the shirt quickly and I had it within a week, across the country. I would highly recommend her shop.

DollysBow

If you’re on Pinterest, there’s a good chance you’ve seen these shirts. She has lots of custom options for images, colours, bows and sayings. The tank tops are actually soooo comfortable. I was really happy with how they turned out. The only thing you need to be mindful of is the shipping. It is an international company so it took a long time to get to us. I didn’t order early enough so I didn’t have them in time for the original trip that I had wanted them. We ended up using them for the next trip though, and thankfully my daughter still fit it.

Castle Pals

Lastly (for now!) On Instagram is this lovely snack print on some homemade ears. This print on ears isn’t really my thing. Thankfully, Etsy has a really neat shop called “Castle Pals!” She has a lovely snack pouch that Danielle gave me for Christmas! I currently am using it to store my cozies and pins. I also really love their customer service! They are based out of California and have annual passes.

Have a magical day!
